Ashley Koshimizu on Instagram: "heart avocado pit buttons ✨ adding a special touch to this sweet little hand-me-down sweater given to me by a friend for Frances. I love making my own buttons, so you bet I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to make a few special ones. These are so easy to make and this is the process that I like best. In terms of thickness, I find that between 1/8”-1/4” is ideal, not too thick and not so thin with risk of breaking. The buttons shrink a lot in size as they dry. You can finish them with polish you’d use for wood and to wash I’d recommend following the same instructions for washing unsealed wood buttons.Materials:avocado pit, sharp knife, drill, medium/fine grit sandpaper, wood polish (optional)Instructions:- Let your avocado pit dry until the outer skin is dry and easy to peel away- Remove the outer skin from the pit- Split the pit down the center seam with a sharp knife- Cut your pit into slices- Cut into heart shapes- Use a medium grit sandpaper to shape your button. I find that if you add in this additional sanding before drying that it cuts down a lot of the work later on. Keep in mind that the button will shrink in size as it dries.- Use a drill to create the holes- Let dry for a week or you can also stick them in a dehydrator- Sand the buttons again, first with a medium grit then with a fine grit sandpaper until smooth- Finish with wood polish (optional)#lowwaste #valentinescrafts #valentinesdiy #lowwastevalentines #handmadebuttons #avocadopitbuttons"
